Other Skin Conditions

When people think of laser medicine, they usually think of cosmetic treatments. But did you know that here at Celibre Medical Corporation, we use our FDA-approved lasers to treat a wide variety of different skin problems. In fact, we are experts at helping patients with skin problems that are not very often treated with laser dermatology procedures.

Here is a list of just a few of the many skin conditions like this that we treat with lasers and a little more about each of them:

skin tags

warts

syringoma

sebaceous hyperplasia

dermatosis papulosa nigra

toenail fungus

hyperhidrosis

Skin tags – Skin tags go by the name of acrochordons in the medical world. They are benign, harmless little fleshy bumps that typically appear on the neck, axilla or groin area. They can happen to men or women, be hereditary, and sometimes, number in the tens to hundreds! They are especially susceptible to irritation from shaving and clothing.

Warts – Warts are a common skin problem that have been described for centuries. They are caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Anyone of any skin type, ethnic background or gender can get a wart anywhere there is skin. While the HPV virus is considered contagious, some people seem more susceptible to warts than others.  Thankfully, they seem to stay confined to just one area of the body (hands or feet) over time, but they can be resistant to many types of aggressive treatment. Toenail Fungus – This is another very common, frustrating problem that many people suffer with. Toenail fungus can be really tough to get rid of and usually will reoccur after a successful round of treatment. Many of the oral medications used to treat it have a lot of potential side effects and interactions with other medications. Laser offers a new, safe and effective way to get rid of this pesky problem.

Syringoma – These pinpoint bumps typically pop-up during puberty or as an adult. They most commonly affect the skin of the eyelids or around the eye area. They are typically flesh colored and only measure about 1 to 3 millimeters in size, but are difficult to hide with makeup and cause a lot of anxiety and embarrassment to those who have them. They are benign growths that arise from the eccrine glands, which is the medical term for a certain type of sweat gland in the skin. While some people may only have a few, others can have a large number of syringoma. Laser is a great tool to treat this difficult problem. Sebaceous Hyperplasia – These little growths typically start in adulthood (after age 30) and can affect both men and women. They are raised, yellow or pinkish bumps, mainly on the face, but they can also appear on the chest, mouth and genital area. They generally don’t get larger than a couple millimeters. They will often group together and are due to enlargement of the oil glands in the skin. They are harmless, but they are aggravating as they are hard to treat and get rid of. Laser treatment offers a surprisingly effective way to deal with this problem. Click on our sebaceous hyperplasia treatment to learn more and see our impressive before and after pictures.

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra – This condition is a familiar one to anyone of Asian or African American descent. Again, it is a benign condition, but one that can be really distressing cosmetically to those affected by it. Also known as DPN, it produces hundreds of small, pinpoint, raised, dark, fleshy bumps that appear on the upper part of the face, especially around the eyes. The iconic actor, Morgan Freeman, has DPN. For him, it is a signature look. For an average, everyday person, however, it can be embarrassing and hard to hide with makeup. Laser offers a powerful and effective treatment for DPN. Hyperhidrosis – This debilitating condition is due to the overproduction of sweat. People with hyperhidrosis sweat even at rest. It is thought to be caused by over-activation of the nervous system and those who suffer with hyperhidrosis find that it impacts their lives in every aspect. Choosing clothing, working in an occupation with close contact to others, intimacy and social situations (handshaking, hugs) are all difficult for someone who suffers with hyperhidrosis. Treatment is available and effective. Both Botox and lasers may be used effectively to halt this problem and give people dealing with hyperhidrosis their lives back.
